What a Great Weekend

STARworks Ceramics is pleased the Open House with Shimpo USA and Cone Art Kiln went very well and there were many people came to see the event. Thank you all so much.

It was a lot of work for all staff of STARworks Ceramics (especially clean up the huge space), and we are happy the event was a great success. We really appreciate Yosuke Koizumi's & Karen Wise's wonderful demonstrations and lectures, and Ian Chung's useful&helpful lecture of electric kiln.

Outreach Program @Pickett Elementary

STARworks Ceramics had another outreach workshop at Pickett Elementary School on May 22, and about 40 students of 5th graders made face jugs with Hitomi.

Jugs were brought back to STARworks Ceramics, then glazed and fired.

The art teacher, Ms. Rebecca came to pick them up yesterday, and I hope students got their own pots!

And I got the best part!

Outreach Program @Tabernacle Elementary

STARworks Ceramics went to Tabernacle Elementary School in Asheboro on May 18th and gave a hands-on workshop for 17 Pre-kinders! Students made great clay animals with Hitomi.

Pots were dried, bisqued, glazed and fired by STARworks Ceramics.

Yesterday, the last day for school before summer holidays, pots were delivered safely and passed to the artists.

Everyone did great job!

Summer Clay Camp 2012 at STARworks Ceramics

Clay Camp 2012 Update

STARworks Ceramics will have exciting summer camp "Clay Camp 2012" and will be two sessions this year:

Session 1: 6/18(Mon) to 6/22(Fri), 7-10 years old
Session 2: 6/25(Mon) to 6/29(Fri), 10-14 years old

Both groups will learn hand building (coil and slab), wheel throwing, decorating and also firing (Pit firing and Raku firing). There will be a guest artist and students learn pottery tradition, history and technique from professional artist.

In August, students work will be exhibited in STARworks Gallery and have a reception with public.

We will announce more details soon.

The Lunch & Learn at Moring Arts Center, Randolph Arts Guild, Asheboro, NC on January 31, at 12pm-1pm. Takuro Shibata, Director of STARworks Ceramics will give a FREE slide presentation about STARworks Ceramics Project. Those interested in ceramics are encouraged to bring a bag lunch at noon, and to enjoy the last day featuring the STARworks Ceramics artists, and to view pottery work made by SWC original blend clay.

Girl Scouts made Face Jugs

A Girl Scouts group came to STARworks Ceramics on Jan 7 (Sat) and they made very cute face jugs in our Clay Studio. Jugs were dried, bisqued, glazed and fired and they look very good.
